Heat Loss
Heat loss is the rate at which a building loses thermal energy to its environment, expressed in BTU per hour at design conditions. Heat loss is the sum of conduction losses through every surface (walls, roof, floor, windows, doors) plus infiltration losses from air leakage. Total heat loss at the heating design temperature is what sizes the heating equipment; annual integrated heat loss across HDD determines the heating energy bill.
